Don Jamieson - SEASON FOUR HIGHLIGHTS - Pt. 1
DAVE MUSTAINE - What a way to kick off Season Four of "That Metal Show" than with Megadeth's Dave Mustaine. Like him or hate him...you absolutely HAVE to tune in to see what he will say. And Dave certainly didn't disappoint. There is a great moment in the show where Dave is talking about the book that he wrote. He said that his lawyers told him that he would be in court the rest of his life because of all the stories and names in the book. I suggested that he just change some of the names of the people who he talked shit about. Like he could use "Mars" Ulrich instead. Dave looks at me, sneers, looks at the audience and decides to take it in stride instead of kicking my ass! In all honesty, he had a great time and was laughing a lot during the show and in the commercial breaks as well. We also talked about what a kick ass new CD Overkill has out called, "Ironbound" and debated who was the best German metal band - Scorpions vs. Accept.
JOEY KRAMER - We had a blast with Aerosmith's one and only drummer ever, Joey Kramer. My favorite moment of the whole interview is when Jim asks Joey if he thinks the band wrote better songs when they were messed up on drugs. Joey just stares at Jim for a second and then blurts out, "WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THAT?" I love real moments like that on the show. We talked about Joey's terrific autobiography, found out What Ever Happened To Aerosmith replacement guitarists Rick Dufay and Jimmy Crespo and debated the best theatrical band of all time: Kiss vs. Alice Cooper.
ACCEPT - It was so great to have Wolf Hoffman and new Accept singer, Mark Tornillo on. Mark is a dear friend of me and Eddie's from his days fronting the great Jersey metal band, TT QUICK. Mark is the perfect replacement for Udo and the guys were nice enough to play us the new album before the taping. We were all in agreement...ACCEPT IS BACK! Also in this episode, you see Jim and I opening for Twisted Sister at the Nokia Theatre in New York City. It's tough enough trying to do comedy in front of a rowdy, rock crowd but try doing it after being told by Dee Snider himself that we had to be squeaky clean for their Twisted X-Mas audience. Tune in and see how we did!
JOE LYNN TURNER - Another dear friend of ours came in for our 4th episode, Joe Lynn Turner. Joe is one of the best vocalists in the history of hard rock and metal (Rainbow, Deep Purple, Yngwie, etc...) and one of the best storytellers as well. Joe is a good old Jersey boy and we loved chatting with him on the show. Also, Jim and I babysit Eddie's kids and teach them how to be headbangers. We played Stump The Trunk with Ed's daughter, colored Ed's UFO albums with crayons and even moshed to "Bark At The Moon." The end of the show was a Throwdown over who was the best guitar player Joe Lynn has ever played with - Richie Blackmore vs. Yngwie Malmsteen.
SCOTT IAN / PEARL - Of course you all know Scott from Anthrax but we got a special bonus when he brought along his wife, Pearl to "That Metal Show." Not only is she super sexy, she's a great singer and Meatloaf's daughter! Scott is always a great guest and was a great sport when we did a Throwdown at the end of the show over who was the best singer for Anthrax - Joey Belladona vs. John Bush.
RUDY SARZO - Rudy is one of the true gentleman of Rock n' Roll. No wonder Ronnie Dio has had him in his band for so long. They are both cut from the same cloth. Rudy has made a living for over 30 years as a bassist and I have followed him from Quiet Riot to Ozzy to Dio and everything else in between. He also wrote an amazing book called, "Off The Rails" about his friendship with Randy Rhodes, his time playing with Ozzy and the great story of boy from Cuba who comes to this country and makes it big. Stump The Trunk goes off the rails as Ed faces the toughest questions to date. Let's just say, we gave away a lot of prizes on this show!
Ok, that catches us up to date. Check back for more soon.
