Slash, Ace, Accept, Ratt, more

3/20/10: Jam packed show last night. Ace Frehley called in from his bath tub (not kidding!) and talked about his current run of E Coast dates and a couple other things. Ace is playing tonight in AC at HOB and tomorrow at Nokia Theater in a show I will be hosting. He's on around 9. Sometimes the hardest interviews are with the people you know best, and I have known Ace almost 25 years, but he is always fun and a trip to have on, even if it's from a tub! Look forward to hearing a few Anamoly tracks live tomorrow night as well as the classics.

Also did the world premiere of a brand new Accept track called "The Abyss" and had Mark Tornillo and Wolf Hoffman on live to set it up and discuss. Wow! This is 7 minutes of some of the best new metal in a long time. Right up there with "Bible Black" from H&H as one of the best metal songs of the last couple years in my book. Crushing killer guitar riff and tone and new singer Mark Tornillo capturing classic Accept, but also bringing his own style vocally and lyrically to the band. Just everything you would want from a new Accept record! Can not wait for the full album and I thank Mark and Wolf for checking in and the band and management for giving me the world premiere. Welcome back Accept, see you at Gramercy on 5/8!

In addition to new Accept tons of great new rock and metal out or coming soon. Also love the new Slash track "By The Sword". Massive Zep like riff, cool vocal from Andrew Stockdale, and just a really great song and vibe and of course killer playing from Slash. Sounds so good cranked up. Slash played me some other tracks when I was in LA a month or so ago that also were very cool. Can't wait for this album and tour. I was a big Snakepit fan also, so glad he is doing some of that live in the set. Hope to have Slash on the radio shows soon. Also the new Ratt sounds great. Exactly what Ratt should sound like. Just got that full CD and played another new track last night. Other new stuff I'm liking; Fozzy, Dio (single "Electra"), Pearl, Armored Saint, Overkill, Scorpions, Charred Walls Of The Damned, Keel and more. Check out and support some of this new stuff.

Kind of curious to see this Runaways film but reviews are not good and I know Lita was very much against it. If I go I'll post a review.

I get a ton of email from people asking; "hey, what's going on with......" and it's always a very fringe band that had no real success. I appreciate people love some of these more obscure bands, I do to, but just because a band released a couple albums at some point in no way means they are active still or even in the music biz at all. The truth is it is not easy to get attention and sell tickets for many established acts, so for these bands in the "Whatever Happened To" catagory it is almost impossible and the truth is they may totally be out of music and working day jobs. The point is there is not a music based answer to every band that ever existed, some just do not exist anymore, as simple as that.

Scorpions & Ratt touring together is a cool bill, but doing outdoor sheds with that bill alone might be a little ambitious. Trust me, I hope I'm wrong, and I'm sure there will be ticket deals and bargains, but I would always prefer seeing a band in a cool club or theater that is full than an outdoor venue half empty. Scorps played The Beacon last time in NYC, Ratt played Nokia with Extreme. Far cry from Jones and PNC. Again, I hope these places are packed and I am wrong, but just seemed to me a little ambitious. Guess we will see.

Have a good weekend. See you at Ace or Monday live on Sirius/XM. TMS ticket info now posted for our Season 5 in LA. Follow me on Twitter at therealedtrunk. No stupid shit, I promise.
