"The Wrestler" and 80's metal

1/26/09: Went to see The Wrestler last night. Mickey Rourke has always been one of my all time favorite actors so I am thrilled for him at what's going on with his career. The guy was always a super actor and I love the fact that he was never a Hollywood fake and did things his way, even if it wasn't always the best way! As for the film I thought it was real good. Maybe not as good as the hype would leave you to believe, but real good just the same. Just happy this guy is back and I hope he continues to win every award. His performance was great, but in reality no better than many of his great previous films, so I kind of think what's happening now is about this movie, but also all the other great things he did finally be acknowledged. Yes he did some awful movies to, but when he is on there are few better. Angel Heart is one of my all time favorites, check that out! The film is pretty much all shot in NJ and even features a strip club me and some friends hung out in years ago. The main reason I'm writing about this film here though is that it includes tons of 80's metal music and references. And I'm not just talking major songs by G&R and Ratt! It also has music by Slaughter, Rhino Bucket, Firehouse, Scorpions and more. Awesome scene were Marissa Tomei dances to the song "Animal Magnetism" by Scorps! An added reason to see a really good film for hard rock fans, but it sends a bigger message to those that still want to marginalize this great music; IT IS A NEW GENERATIONS CLASSIC ROCK AND CAN NO LONGER BE IGNORED! It usually takes about 20 years for music to sink or swim as "classic rock" and we have reached that point. I have no doubt you will see more and more of these artists creeping into classic rock radio and The Wrester is just one of many examples!
