LA trip recap, TMS, more.
11/15/08: Hope you all enjoy the premiere of That Metal Show tonight at 11PM ET/PT on VH1 Classic. The show will repeat several times through the week and we had HUGE news this past week; the show will also be seen on regular VH1! This opens us up to just about EVERYONE with a TV! The date for regular VH1 looks like 11/22 at 8:30PM ET/PT, but that could change. If you have Classic, that's the place to go and the home for the show, but I am thrilled to be on VH1 also. This really has been an amazing week. Just returned from LA and it was a great trip. To have a billboard on Sunset Blvd and in Times Square is unreal. There are radio commercials for the show and print ads in mags. Just awesome. We also found out that the show might be on international VH1 affiliates, so if your a viewer of this site outside the US, That Metal Show might be headed your way soon! The first episode now airing is pilot and was shot back in April, so some things will seem dated. The shows to follow are more current. Lita Ford is the first guest, Yngwie Malmsteen next up. So many cool moments to come and great guests as well.
As for the trip to LA it was a great visit. The week started with a visit to The Rainbow, the rock mecca of LA. For those that have never been the Rainbow is not a live music venue. Just a legendary rock bar and restaurant. Wednesday Don, Jim and I did some press, including a live interview on KNAC with DJ Will. Also Wednesday Jim did a very funny guest spot on the E show Chelsea Lately. While there I ran into Vince Neil who was also a guest that day. Vince is a bud and it was good to see him. He invited me to the Motley show in LA Friday but I decided to fly home to do my live Q104 show, but due to delays didn't make that either (a recorded all 70's special ran). I appreciate the invite from Vince and he did tell me Motley is doing a Winter arena tour that will include MSG as a date in NYC. He also told me there will be a Cruefest 2 next Summer and it will be an annual event. Seemed in good spirits and said everyone is getting along and the future for Motley iseems bright. He will also be doing some solo shows and working his other projects as well.
Thursday was the bowling autism fund raiser event in Hollywood. Packed house that me, Don and Jim ended up MCing. Great event for a great cause. Ran into Jack Russell and Michael Lardie of Great White, Stephen and Phil from LA Guns, Jani Lane (who seemed to be doing well), Richie Kotzen, Scott Ian and Pearl, and many more. Interesting mix of sports and music celebs where there that included John Sally, Jason Sehorn, Matt Sorum, Dave Navarro and many more. The highlight of the trip had to be Wednesday night when we all went to dinner with NFL legend Dan Marino! It was a great night to say the least. First time I ever met Dan and the guy could not be cooler. Stories for ages and just an incredible thing for NFL fans like me, Jim and Don. They had worked with Dan when they did Inside The NFL. Beyond cool.
