The Judas Priest party. Anthrax, Extreme
Words can not express my thanks to Judas Priest for honoring me with their performance for my upcoming 25th Anniversary celebration! Never in my wildest dreams when I started my first metal show in NJ 25 years ago did I ever envision to still be doing it after all these years and to be celebrating this career landmark with the Metal Gods! How did this all happen you ask? Well I often talk on the air about my past experiences and history in metal and with the many great artists I have shared those moments with. Many friends and artists said, "wow, that's special, you have to do something". I appreciated the idea, but was not really interested unless it could be REALLY special. After all, I do a few special events every year, and we have fun together at those. So when the time came about a year ago to see if something cool could be done I created a wish list of things that I'd like to make happen. The first band that came to mind for me to celebrate a hard rock/metal show was the band that helped create the genre, Judas Priest. Over the years the Priest guys have become good friends and have always been very appreciative of the support I've given them for their various projects in and out of the confines of the band. I first mentioned the anniversary to the band and their management about a year ago, and they said they would do everything in their power to make this happen and really wanted to do it as a thanks to me. I can honestly tell you I made no other phone calls. After all, to have a private show with Judas Priest is about as good as it gets to celebrate a metal radio show! When Priest was in town to do press for the new CD talks intensified and a deal was struck to make it all happen. To have these legends performing for me, my friends and associates, and of course some of you lucky listeners and supporters, is beyond special. Needless to say, seeing Priest in a small private setting is incredibly rare and has hardly ever happened. I am so thankful to the guys and Jayne Andrews and Priest management, as well as John Pasquale and Dave Miller at The Hard Rock, Erik Luftglass and all at PAID, and Glenn at Legends Harley for sponsoring the whole thing. There will be so much more to discuss about this event as we get closer and many more special things to reveal. My hope is that many of the artists that have been a part of my show over the decades will be able to attend, as well as close friends and the behind the scenes people that have given me opportunities to do what I do. Of course this celebration would not be complete without inviting some of you, the loyal people that follow and support what I do. Now the special aspect of this is that it is a small private party and the chance to see an arena act in that setting, so tickets are NOT for sale and will be VERY limited to the public. From this point on, anytime you hear any Judas Priest song on my live Q104.3/NYC show, and are caller 25, you will win a free pair of tickets to the event. The call in and win contest is ONLY for listeners hearing the show LIVE on Q104.3 Friday nights 11PM-2AM or live online. It does not apply to airings of the show on replay on affiliate stations or to the XM show! Outside of calling in and winning on the Q104.3 show, everyone else can try winning on www.eddietrunk.com. I'll be giving away the bulk of tickets through the site so all listeners/viewers from any outlet have a shot a winning. Make sure we have your info and we will be announcing new winners often. Of course if your outside the NYC area getting here is up to you. Much more to talk about as we get closer. Good luck getting in and hope to see you August 4th in NYC at The Hard Rock with JUDAS PRIEST and a slew of special metal VIPs. Thank YOU as always for your continued support!
Some other quick stuff:
Like what I've heard from the new Extreme. Good to hear Nuno ripping again. He will be in both radio shows soon and I look forward to seeing them at Rocklahoma.
Guitarist Richie Kotzen and Triumph bassist Mike Levine in the studio for the Q104 show this coming Friday 6/27.
Anthrax performed in Canada this past week once again without bassist Frank Bello. Joey Vera filled in. Joey replaced Frank for the couple years he was out of the band. Obviously there are some issues once again, however it's not yet known what the future is for Frank and the band going forward. Sit tight for news. By all acounts new singer Dan Nelson is doing a great job but I have not yet heard him.
